Oxigen Environmental & Climate Action Week 13–19 October

Website-Blog-Banners-12

As Climate Action Week returns to Ireland from 13 to 19 October 2025, Oxigen Environmental is proud to join the national movement toward a greener, more resilient future.

This week is more than a collection of events. It's a moment for citizens, businesses and communities to take real steps toward climate action. At Oxigen Environmental, we believe that responsible waste management and recycling are essential to this mission. Here's how we're contributing and how you can get involved.

What Is Climate Action Week?

Climate Action Week is Ireland's largest community-driven climate initiative, coordinated by An Taisce. It invites schools, businesses, local groups and individuals to host or attend events such as workshops, clean-ups, repair cafés, talks and art projects.

The goal is simple: encourage awareness, change habits and spark local action that reduces carbon emissions and builds sustainable communities.

Why Waste and Recycling Matter for Climate Action

When people think about climate change, they often picture renewable energy or electric transport. Yet waste plays a major role in reducing emissions and protecting resources.

✔️ Cutting greenhouse gases: Waste sent to landfill releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Diverting waste through recycling or composting prevents these emissions

✔️ Saving resources: Recycling materials such as glass, metal, plastic and paper uses far less energy than producing new ones.

✔️ Supporting a circular economy: Keeping materials in use for as long as possible reduces demand for new resources and limits environmental impact.

At Oxigen Environmental, our goal is to divert as much waste as possible from landfill and turn it into reusable resources that benefit both the environment and the economy.

What Oxigen Environmental Is Doing During Climate Action Week

  1. Raising Awareness: We'll share daily tips, videos and infographics to help households and businesses recycle correctly, reduce contamination and cut down on waste.
  2. Community Involvement: We're partnering with local groups for clean-up days, repair cafés and reuse events. If your area would like to host one, contact us — we can help with bins, materials and logistics.
  1. Incentives and Pledges: Throughout the week, we'll encourage people to make personal pledges like "I will compost my food waste" or "I'll reduce single-use plastics." Some areas may also receive promotional skip hire or collection offers to encourage participation.
  2. Operational Improvements: Behind the scenes, we're reviewing our fleet, routes and energy use to identify ways to further reduce our carbon footprint and improve recycling quality.

How You Can Get Involved

✔️ Make a Pledge
Commit to one small change — recycling better, composting food waste or avoiding single-use items — and share your action using #ClimateActionWeek.

✔️ Join or Host an Event
Find local events on the Climate Action Week website or host your own swap shop, talk or community clean-up.

✔️ Sort Waste Correctly
Contamination reduces the value of recycling. Make sure your recyclables are clean, dry and placed in the right bin.

✔️ Choose Reuse Over Replace
Repair, donate or repurpose before throwing items away. Small habits make a big difference.

✔️ Inspire Others
Encourage family, friends or colleagues to join in. Change grows fastest when people see it close to home.

Looking Beyond the Week

Climate Action Week is just the beginning. The real impact comes from continuing sustainable habits and building long-term community engagement. By committing to ongoing change, households, businesses and communities can maintain recycling, composting and waste reduction efforts well beyond the week. Tracking progress in waste diversion, contamination reduction and participation helps measure success and identify opportunities for improvement. Expanding initiatives such as repair cafés, swap shops and local clean-ups throughout the year ensures that positive actions grow and inspire others.

At Oxigen Environmental, we continually improve our operations, from fleet efficiency to recycling processes, to support Ireland's journey toward a circular economy. Keeping the momentum going beyond Climate Action Week enables real, lasting change for the environment and for future generations.

Climate Action Week 13–19 October 2025 is an opportunity for everyone in Ireland to take meaningful steps toward a sustainable future. At Oxigen Environmental, we see waste not as a burden but as a valuable resource that can be reused, recycled and repurposed to benefit both the environment and the community.
