According to the address given you live in a designated area settlement whereby law you are required to source segregate your kitchen food waste and not to place such segregated food waste into your residual-black bin.
This same law (section 6) gives you 3 options for managing your source segregated kitchen food waste and either option will make you compliant with this specific piece of legislation and comprise of the following,
- You can treat your source segregated kitchen food waste in a Home Composter. This is the most environmentally friendly option giving you a usable garden compost with zero emissions. A home composter may be purchased at your friendly DIY store, see this link on how best to operate a home composter to get the best compost for your garden. The only cost involved in this option is the initial layout cost for the home-composter itself.
- You can bring your source segregated kitchen food waste to a recycling centre that accepts such waste for a fee. They will then bring all their collected kitchen food waste to a permitted composting facility for composting.
You can also engage Oxigen to provide you with a brown bin waste collection service whereby we will directly provide to your door a brown bin and we will collect every two weeks your kitchen food waste and take it on to a permitted composting facility for composting. This being the lesser environmentally friendly option of all three options. If you choose this option one of our staff will contact you regarding the cost of this service in your area.
